Charging TA
Hey guys, I havent introduced myself here yet, because I dont spend much time on here. Basically I moved last November from Florida to Finland and brought my LT1 Trans Am with me. I am on LS1Tech alot with the same handle. I posted this in the English section because even though I can speak/understand Finnish, my writing skills are no the best. Anyways, I need some help with motor oils over here. In Florida I would go with Castrol GTX 10w30, but over here the only Castrol GTX that I found was Magnatec, which is a Synthetic (and I prefer to stick with a Conventional oil). Any recommendations on what to use? I did some searching and found some guys running 50 weights, which seems like alot. Also where can these oils be found (Im in Vantaa right now). The TA wont be driven in the winter at all. Also is a cross-reference filter availble from anywhere (if not I have a friend who should have some). Thanks in advance. I plan on making it out to the American car show coming up next month.
pantera
Hey buddy, don't even think about using strait 50 weight in your ls1, you will pop your oilpump shaft at no time if you are cranking it up at cold temps. You should be able to find that 10W40 Castrol GTX at numerous places, we here at ostrobothnia have discount store "minimani" they seems to carry full line of castrol lubricants, including gtx

I wouldnt use a heavy weight (such as 50 weight), but was just amazed I saw some guys list it when I searched for oils on this site. I searched for Castrol at Motonet and they only showed the Synthetic Formula.
pantera
well it might be that "authorized" castrol vendors offers just part of their lineup, this minimani place is independent and they are importing their stuff who knows where, Maybe it´s better to look up those "indies" btw, I used straight 50 weight valvoline racing oil in my pantera, and I never crank it up under +20 temps, sofar I´ve been replacing two brass distributor gears due excessive wear ,(1500 miler per gear) and this gear runs only hv oilpump , ( distributorless ing.syst.)
